Starting June 1, 2026, Heng Swee Keat, former Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, will take on the role of the first chancellor at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). Heng’s appointment, which spans a five-year term concluding on May 31, 2031, marks his entry as the university’s foremost ceremonial leader and ambassador. In this capacity, he will oversee significant university events such as graduation ceremonies and will act as a representative for SIT in both institutional and external engagements.

Heng brings a wealth of experience to his new position. He currently serves as chairman of the National Research Foundation and holds a directorship at GIC, where he is also part of the Investment Strategies Committee. His political career includes serving as Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister from 2019 to 2025, as well as holding the roles of Education Minister from 2011 to 2015 and Finance Minister from 2015 to 2021.
