Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has emphasized the need for greater female representation in key sectors across Southeast Asia, calling on women leaders to assert their roles in governance, business, technology, and civil society. Speaking at the 4th ASEAN Women Leaders’ Summit held in Mandaluyong City on Tuesday, Marcos highlighted the significant contributions women make to regional security, resilience, and economic growth.

Marcos pointed out that although women have been instrumental in supporting families and local economies, they continue to be underrepresented in national parliaments and government cabinets throughout ASEAN member states. He stressed that women should not only be seen as beneficiaries of development initiatives but also as leaders and innovators who are actively shaping the future of the region.

During his address, Marcos called for the implementation of policies, the establishment of institutions, and the allocation of investments that reflect and bolster women’s participation and leadership. He emphasized that an inclusive approach in these areas is vital for harnessing the full potential of women as integral contributors to the region’s development.

The summit served as a platform for discussing the pivotal roles women play in various sectors and the challenges they face in achieving equal representation. Marcos’s remarks underscored the ongoing need for structural changes that promote gender equality and empower women to take on leadership positions.

As the ASEAN region continues to grow and evolve, the call for enhanced female representation and participation remains a crucial component of the dialogue among member nations, aiming to drive sustainable development and inclusive growth.
