Singapore is poised to leverage artificial intelligence across key industries such as advanced manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and connectivity, anticipating that this technological shift will yield benefits that extend beyond these sectors and fuel broader economic prosperity. These industries collectively contribute to over 40% of the nation’s GDP and are central to the government’s AI initiative outlined in Budget 2026.

Minister for Trade and Industry, Tan See Leng, emphasized that the transformation driven by AI could open up new avenues for related sectors and the economy at large. Nonetheless, he underscored that the success of these benefits hinges on how adeptly businesses can revamp their processes and incorporate AI into their operations. As Singapore moves forward, it must continue to bolster its talent pool, investment, and expertise to foster innovation, a crucial task given its limited population size.

On a parallel note, Cambodian Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, Hem Vanndy, remarked on the dual nature of AI for Cambodia, presenting both opportunities and challenges amid the country’s digital evolution. He pointed out the necessity of equipping businesses and the workforce with the skills requisite for embracing new technologies and enhancing efficiency.

Both ministers concurred that, as countries navigate the complexities of geopolitical tensions, trade barriers, and evolving global supply chains, maintaining openness, focusing on workforce development, and adapting to technological advancements will be essential.
