The Philippines has decided to extend its visa-free entry program for Taiwanese passport holders, allowing them to visit the country without a visa for up to 14 days. This initiative, which is set to continue until June 30 of the following year, is part of the Philippines’ efforts to boost tourism and enhance cultural exchanges between the two nations. Visitors from Taiwan who intend to stay longer than the two-week period will still be required to apply for a visa in advance.
This extension is a continuation of the policy first introduced last year, maintaining the existing visa-exemption arrangement. The Philippines’ decision aligns with its practice of upholding reciprocal visa agreements with other countries, as Taiwanese citizens currently enjoy the same visa-free privileges that are extended to Philippine nationals visiting Taiwan.
In addition to extending visa-free access, the Philippines is concentrating on attracting more travelers from Taiwan by enhancing air travel options and promoting attractions beyond well-known destinations like Palawan. The government is keen to highlight other regions and unique travel experiences across the archipelago, aiming to diversify its tourism offerings.
Tourism statistics reveal that from January to May this year, nearly 94,000 tourists from Taiwan have visited the Philippines, indicating a rise in numbers compared to the same timeframe last year. This surge underscores Taiwan’s significance as one of the Philippines’ leading sources of international visitors, reflecting the potential for further tourism growth between the two countries.
