In a push to enhance the digital capabilities of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Singapore is ramping up its efforts to integrate artificial intelligence across various business sectors. This includes forming strategic partnerships, launching training programs, and rolling out cybersecurity measures. At the Asia Tech x Singapore conference, Tan Kiat How, the Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information, underscored the importance of practical AI application over merely chasing industry trends.

As part of this initiative, the government has expanded the Digital Enterprise Blueprint (DEB), a comprehensive plan aimed at fostering the digital transformation and AI adoption among SMEs. The program has already reached over 26,000 SMEs, with AI adoption rates soaring from 4.3 percent in 2023 to an anticipated 53.5 percent by 2025. This impressive growth highlights the increasing embrace of AI technologies among Singaporean enterprises.

New collaborations with companies like Grab and RSM Stone Forest IT are central to this strategy. Grab’s AI program targets 10,000 SMEs in sectors such as food, retail, and e-commerce, offering them free online training, webinars, and AI courses in partnership with the Singapore University of Technology and Design. Meanwhile, RSM Stone Forest IT is set to introduce a cybersecurity initiative that will conduct phishing simulation exercises for 2,000 SMEs, aiming to bolster their cyber defenses and pinpoint potential vulnerabilities.

Furthermore, the government has unveiled the “AI for Enterprise Impact Playbook,” a resource crafted by the Infocomm Media Development Authority, SkillsFuture Singapore, and Workforce Singapore. This playbook is intended to guide businesses in choosing appropriate AI solutions and identifying relevant training opportunities for their workforce, thus supporting a holistic approach to AI integration.

To celebrate and incentivize successful AI implementation, Singapore plans to host the first-ever SME AI Impact Awards in 2026. These awards will honor Singapore-registered SMEs that have effectively employed AI solutions for at least six months, achieving tangible improvements in operations or workforce efficiency. This initiative is designed to acknowledge and encourage innovation in AI utilization among SMEs, further driving the nation’s digital transformation agenda.
