Salt Shopping? Don’t Be Fooled by Gourmet Claims

Walking through any modern grocery store, you’ll see natural salts touted as healthier, from flaky sea salt to radiant Himalayan crystals. Clever marketing and chef endorsements have convinced many that these variants are nutritional upgrades over table salt.

But science draws a different line. While these salts might carry traces of minerals, their amounts are so slight that, as experts highlight, you’d have to eat dangerously high quantities to see even a minimal benefit—something no health expert recommends.

The real concern remains the volume of sodium in your diet. Excessive sodium—from any salt—leads to raised blood pressure, heart strain, and the risk of chronic illness. UK researchers say most people eat more than the recommended six grams daily, putting their health at risk.

For genuinely better choices, cut back on all types of salt, check food labels for hidden sodium, and get minerals from fruits and vegetables, not the salt shaker.
